I saw the cutest idea for an "Angry Birds Inspired Water Balloon Game" over at one of my favorite blogs No Time For Flash Cards. When the kids and I were shopping at a local toy store for a birthday present, I came across these and thought they would be perfect to incorporate into the game at No Time For Flashcards.
Here is the Water Balloon Sling Shot and the Pumponator with Biodegradable Balloons which I will review later. We used the Pumponator to blow up balloons and then I drew (very badly) some Angry Bird faces with a Sharpie.
I drew some pigs on the driveway with sidewalk chalk.
Then we loaded the bird balloons into the launcher to splash the pigs.
Sounds like a blast right!? Wrong! After 20 minutes with the Pumponator, I only got two balloons to fill up without busting or squirting water from tiny pinprick sized holes. The only thing I can guess is that the balloons started to biodegrade in the container. I decided to try the balloons that came in the Sling Shot Set. However, I couldn't get the nozzle that fills the balloons to fit on the end of the hose. When we actually tried the Sling Shot, the balloon went about an inch. Five separate people, 4 kids and myself tried it and no one could get the balloon to launch more than an inch.
Is it possible that me and my family are not the brightest stars in the sky and this was just user error? Yeah sure that is possible. When I went to return the items to the store, they said that they had sold a lot of these items and no one had ever had a problem before. So all I can say is BUYER BEWARE.
