8th Birthday Oreo Class Treat

My middle child "J" just turned 8 and I wanted to come up with a fun snack to bring into his class to celebrate. There are nut allergies in the classroom and I didn't want anyone to be left out. So these little dandies only require 2 ingredients: Oreos and Candy Melts.

OK- there is a third ingredient. For smoother melted chocolate, add a little vegetable oil. See how much better the yellow ones look? I just dipped each Oreo in the melted chocolate and butted two up against each other, adding a bit more chocolate on the joint to keep them connected.

I love my little Pampered Chef icing bottle. It is a pain to clean but super easy to use.

I just piped on the number 8 and put in a cool spot for a couple hours until all the chocolate coating had hardened.

Using my Creative Memories Storybook Creator digital program, I created these fun tags to attach to each treat.

Voila!

Birthday Wishes and Etsy Dreams

It's my birthday! It's my birthday! It's my birthday! ...... in a few days....

Maybe if you ask for overnight delivery, you can have one of my top personal Etsy picks at my door in time for my birthday.

 I had to dig out all of our winter coats for the first time today. Mine is just plain white and I think this dark green leafy scarf from Leafy Designs would look quite striking against the starkness of my jacket. Plus it would help to cover all the little stains dotting my blank canvas of a coat.

I have never seen crocheted earrings before and that's partly what I love about them but I also think these green sterling silver faux pearl dangles are insanely cute and cozy. Way to go Gilbert and Marie!They would probably pair well with my green leafy scarf too.

 
I used to have a pie plate similar to this but I dropped it and cracked it in half and I miss it terribly. I mean who wants to serve a pie or a quiche or even a baked dip in a plain old round metal pan? Not I! I love the rustic blue green color and scalloped edges that Page Pottery incorporated into this design.

 I have no clue how to style my hair. I wear it straight down, in a pony tail or under my favorite baseball cap. Those few times a year when I have to get dressed up, I get the most stressed about what to do with my hair. I love the idea of adding one of these classy retro looking headbands to beautify my tresses. Ruffles and Fringe has a wonderful selection and there is definitely more than one that I am eyeballing.

So most of the time, I am a jeans and t-shirt kinda girl and don't feel the need to lug a big purse around on my quick errands. I love this little green apple wristlet from 144 Collection. Perfect for my wallet, keys and phone.

I don't know if you noticed but I have a certain theme going here. Yeah, it's not easy being green!

Rainbow Party Thank You Bottle Wrappers

So, let's end the week with an end to our Rainbow/Crayola birthday party for a 5 year old. Even if there are only two guests at the party, you still need to send them home with a special thank you. My inspiration for the idea was this cool 2 liter bottle gift I found on Pinterest.

I knew I didn't have enough stuff to fill a 2 liter bottle so I used my Smart Water bottles instead.

 
When you pull off the label it is super duper sticky!! I used my new homemade Goo Remover which worked like a charm!

Next you have to cut the secret opening in bottle, through which you can stuff your goodies.

 
I just used an exacto knife to cut the little door.

 
Inside the bottles went a sheet of rainbow stickers, a rainbow lollipop, a colorful necklace kit and 2 coloring pages which I printed from here and here. The girls already had the crayons to color the pictures from their Crayola Party Invites.

 
If I had had more time, I would have painted the caps and put some shredded paper confetti in the bottom of the bottles. I designed the label to cover the door opening. Just tape it in place.

Milk Plug Recycled Rainbow Beaded Rings

Sometimes I think I have brilliant ideas, so brilliant that those crafty magazines like Family Fun and Martha Stewart should be tracking me down and begging me to bring my creative genius to their companies.

I felt that way about these milk plug rings.

 
Yesterday I was looking through Pinterest and saw a ring exactly like the ones we made. I mean exactly, even the same kind of beads. My first thought was that someone hacked into my computer and stole my pictures but then I realized that I am not that good of a photographer.

I next started looking around my kitchen craft room for little tiny spy cameras. I just couldn't get it through my thick skull that someone else could have the same idea as me.

Oh well, here is my unoriginal rainbow ring craft made from recycled milk plugs.

 
These milk plugs come from organic milk cartons. Add some Aileens Tacky glue and small colorful beads. I kinda feel bad for my husband. He doesn't even bat an eye when he finds my odd collections around the house, like a handful of these milk tabs in our change jar.

 
I put the glue on pretty thickly and then the kids can either dip their rings into the beads or drop them on.

 

Clipping a clothespin to the ring makes it easier for little hands to hold without getting too messy. The glue will clear as it dries.
 
Here is the darling ring on L's hand. It was a great, simple craft for a preschoolers party.

Rainbow Glitter Butterfly Party Favor with Skittles

I found this idea for a cute colorful candy party favor via Pinterest. It comes specifically from the website Baballa.

But of course I had to put my own spin on it.  I started with those same lollipop bags I used to make these rainbow crayon Classroom Party Favors. I filled each bag about half way with Skittles. This is the fun part, 5 Skittles into the bag, 10 2 into my mouth:) REPEAT! You know how kids get brain freeze when they eat ice cream too fast? I definitely got some sort of sugar overload that caused my head to throb!

 
Cut one piece of colored pipe-cleaner in half and use it to tie the bag closed. This will also be the butterflies antennae.

 
Can you believe that I have had this Martha Stewart glitter for 2 years and have only used it one other time? Why are there not more opportunities for adults to use glitter? I mean it is too messy for kids but in the hands of an adult it can turn anything into a sparkly magical rainbow.

 
I used Aileens craft glue to adhere the glitter and eyes. Once it is dried, use the clothespin to clip the two bags together.  Oh how I love you glittery glitter!!

 
Ok - so adults can be messy too but at least I clean up my own mess. And look at the end result!

 
Tomorrow we will be coming home with our party guests straight from a soccer game. Each girl will have one of these lovely little butterflies waiting on her plate at the kitchen table.
